Social Activities in Bankstown, Social Welfare Organisations in Bankstown, Youth Services in Bankstown

Outloud is an intersectional, CALD-focused social impact arts organisation that creates genuine, meaningful, inspiring opportunities for young people in Western Sydney. Our award-winning projects address nationally relevant issues that are affecting young people in Western Sydney. We use community-embedded contemporary arts to drive positive change for young people with best practice, evidence-based programs that are fun and inspiring. We specialise in early-intervention harm-reduction that celebrates strengths and amplifies socially-marginalised young people’s thoughts and ideas. We put a spotlight on global issues that are affecting our local young people and amplify their thoughts and ideas. We elevate skills and confidence and aim to build self-efficacy and social cohesion. We work with young people who are either emerging leaders, at risk, or looking for a way to make a difference. We connect our participants to mentors, their peers, role models and industry contacts. We work with them to create art that challenges, inspires, questions and makes an impact on the participants, their audiences, and hopefully – their wider community. We amplify local voices to create profound and lasting change in South-West Sydney.Formally known as BYDS – Bankstown Youth Development Service, we’ve been working in Western Sydney since 1991, and have worked with thousands of young people. We can name generations of artists who have built their career after engaging with us.

Services

Some of our major projects include:
- respect = is a program over 2 terms where we talk to primary school boys aged 10-12 about domestic violence and gender equality. During the program they write and record their own rap song about concepts they've learnt.
- unity = sister project to respect. Over 2 terms girls and gender diverse students aged 10-12 in local primary schools learn about healthy relationships with themselves, friends, family, community and society. During the program, they write and record their own song about concepts they've learnt.
- Muslim Peers Project = we provide free anonymous counselling for queer or questioning Muslims experiencing mental health concerns. We have a collaborative and supportive Instagram page where we share queer Muslim art and artists.
- Open Studio = every Tuesday we have an open invite for young people and emerging artists to attend a judgment free space from 4pm-5:30pm where they can share ideas and thoughts on their art and receive supportive feedback and advice.
Be Your Own Billboard = is where we do screen printing for specific events/themes for participants to express ideas and passions about social issues.
Badge Making = is where we have a badge stall where young people can make and express themselves about social issues they are passionate about.
